Blog: My #Nebulas Disappointments

Imagine, if you will, a lone violin playing a poignant, lonely song that raises in tone, then lowers in sweet sympathy.

You do have to imagine it, because the guy I hired to play for this piece went on strike when he saw the list. @sigh. Some people just don’t get it. Anyway, on with my list of reasons I’m disappointed with my time at the Nebula Awards Weekend.

1) Books behind glass (the Thomas Jefferson library display at the Library of Congress). <sniffle> Books are meant to be read, not trapped in glass display cases. It’s like a knife to my heart.

2) Not enough time for site-seeing.

3) No one told me THERE WAS CAKE!

4) I didn’t sell any books at the Book Depot

5) I couldn’t find Weight of Stone (Laura Anne Gilman) or House of the Star (Caitlin Brennan – aka Judith Tarr) at the Book Depot or any of the local bookstores. And I tried. Tromped all over that part of D.C. even. Still couldn’t find them. And I really wanted those autographs. @sob

6) Forgot to snap that picture of that wonderful, story-inspiring house view from the window of the health club. <headdesk> <headdesk>

7) Forgot to buy drinks for J.G. and a few other people.

8) Didn’t win the lottery while I was gone. Oh, wait. I forgot to buy a ticket. Hmpf. Wouldn’t have even won if I’d bought the silly ticket.
