It's been a while

2014 has been a rough year. I got in over my head with a lot of projects I wasn't able to complete, family issues consumed a lot of my free time, and monetary issues ensured the loss of my domain name (someone bought it out from under me and now wants $200.00 minimum for me to buy it back). So now I get to rebuild my web presence from scratch, including new domains.

Bleargh. Such is life. And I shouldn't have let it derail my writing, but Crap Happens.

Still, I have my health, a roof over my head, and plenty of friends to bonk me over the head with a wet noddle when I get stupid, so I can't really justify complaining. All I can say is "Hi. Welcome back to my LJ page. Sorry I was absent."

I hope you and yours are doing well. It's a new year and, as they say in Weight Watchers, don't let a stumble ruin your plan.

  1. ’14 wasn’t a bad year for me, in fact, taken in to account the last five years, it was pretty darn good for one main reason: full-time local database developer gig after two years out of work. I’ve been doing DBA for so long that it’s fantastic getting back in to the T-SQL development side hard-core, and getting to use the little things that I’ve learned over the years.

And I got my photography certificate completed and exhibited two prints.

But there’s always negatives. A friend losing his wife to cancer on Christmas Day ’13, my mom having brain surgery and now doing much better, losing an aunt to old age and dementia.

I’ve been lucky and done a good job defending my domain names, though I received an interesting piece of spam. It looked like ridiculously expensive domain renewal, turned out to be an offer for SEO.

I think life is always a mixed bag when you really look at it.

  2. My condolences for your loss and I’m glad your mom is doing better.

You’re right. Life is a mixed bag. It’s all in how one choices to hold on to or deal with the pain that decides the final outcome.
