Blog: Google Privacy Policy Update

Just an fyi. I got the notice, maybe you did too. Check your email. Google has updated its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you don’t want to click through from my blog, you can find links to both of them here: http://www.google.com/policies/.

I advise Google users to read them carefully. You may be surprised at what you find in there.

There’s this little nugget, for example:

“When you use our services or view content provided by Google, we may automatically collect and store certain information in server logs. This may include:

  • details of how you used our service, such as your search queries.
  • telephony log information like your phone number, calling-party number, forwarding numbers, time and date of calls, duration of calls, SMS routing information and types of calls.”

I’m sure there are sound technical reasons for Google to require this information, but I for one won’t be using any of Google’s services from my cell phone. That’s just my paranoid DBA side talking. Or maybe I’ve just played too much Shadowrun.
