PASS (The Professional Association of SQL Server @ http://www.sqlpass.org) has acquired the SQLSaturday brand and “code camps”. Speaking of which, this free event is coming to Jacksonville again and I’ve submitted sessions on database recovery and JOINs. If you’re in the neighborhood and interested in Microsoft SQL Server, feel free to register for the event. You don’t even have to be a database administrator to go. SQL Saturday happens all across the country, so if you’re not in Jacksonville, there are lots of others to go to. Atlanta, GA is having one, as well as Pensacola, FL, Philly, Charlotte. Lastly, let’s not forget the greatest writers workshop with the most interesting name (I refuse to say “worst”). Viable Paradise. This one is not free, but it is very useful. The connections you make here will last you a lifetime (if you’re nice to them) and it can teach even a previously published author things. I believe the submission period is open through the end of June. www.viableparadise.com.
Three members of my local writers group (including me) have attended so far. We all swear by it it (respectfully, of course. @=). It is an incredible experience, though you will be exhausted by the end of it. So submit your work, novel or short story, as soon as you can. You won’t regret it.

Do you think Viable Paradise is a bad name for a workshop?
The reference to the workshop name was a response to a comment I heard during VP about the actual name from an actual instructor and former student.
“The best writers workshop with the worst name.” Or something to that effect. The story behind the name goes like this: The founder had severe allergies. She moved to Martha’s Vineyard, where her allergies were non-existant, so she called the island her “viable paradise” and so named the workshop & convention when she started it.
Whether the name is good or bad, apparently it has a reputation for being one of the most interesting workshop names. @=)
