The Joys of Ranting

Apparently, Steve Jones of SQLServerCentral.com and PASS fame enjoyed my previous DBA rant so much that he wants to feature it as an editorial in an upcoming SSC newsletter.

“Yay, Me!”

Ack! Somebody help me. I’m turning into London Tipton.

So while I’m cheering about getting more recognition, I’m also prepping for a little contest down here in Florida. They call it the “Microsoft Community Speaker Idol Competition.” Local user groups, developer and DBA alike, are banding together and holding speaking contests of 5-10 minutes over a two hour period. The Jacksonville one is tonight. (I’d have posted sooner, but I was busy writing over the past 4 days so didn’t check the relevant email account).

I’m going to do my Nitty-Gritty of Database Backups speech. If I don’t know this one by heart by now, I’m in serious trouble. @=)

Anyway, depending on the number of contestants, I either have 5 or 10 minutes to wow the judges. Those who “win,” move up to a regional contest and the regional winners move up to the finals level. Not sure if there are actual prizes. Not sure if I care if there are actual prizes, actually.

MVPs are disqualified this time around and are serving as judges in many groups. I can use any combination of speaking, technology and audience participation that I want. Whee! That makes it more of a theatre performance than an actual contest. I can DO that. @=)

So, wish me luck in making a total fool of myself. I’m looking forward to bouncing across the room with lots of energy and making people wish someone had locked me up instead of letting me speak. (hee)
