My Crystal Reports presentation at the local SQL Server Group went pretty well. Not a huge crowd, but those that attended seemed to enjoy it. I got a Thrive card from the event and won a year’s Technet subscription. That excited me. But I was supposed to hear back in 5-10 days with a confirmation from Microsoft. Still haven’t heard back, which is a bummer. I need to contact Microsoft and find out what’s going on.
Tomorrow, I do SQL Saturday in Jacksonville. May 2nd. Saturday of course. I’m working morning registration then doing a T-SQL 101 session, then it’s lunchtime and right after lunch I’m doing "Disaster Recovery: Preparing for the Storm". Because, of course, I live in Florida and anyone who lives in Florida knows that a hurricane is inevitable.
It helps that I used to work for Iron Mountain. I learned a lot about Emergency Planning and Disaster Recovery while working there.
Of course, my presentation is more generic, not specifically geared towards hurricanes or any one particular disaster.
I am so worn out, it’s not even funny. The past several weeks have been a marathon of presentation preparation plus writing. Over the course of 2 & 1/2 days, I spit out 5500 words of short stories (three of them) plus edited another 3000 word piece. For me, that’s fairly prolific. Of course, it means that I wasn’t editing my novel, but the break was worth it. I call my shorts "Science Fantasy" because they involve magic and science fiction.
Yeppers. Science Fantasy is my absolute favorite term. I apply it to anything that has science fiction and fantasy elements wrapped up in one story. I think we need to make it an official genre all on its own. What do you think?
