Always…Try
by Brandie Tarvin
Always behind,
always down.
Always, always stuck on the ground.
Hurry forward,
don’t look back.
Try to stay in front of the pack.
Try to fight,
try to fly.
Try, try mightily to touch the sky.
Hard to see
what hides behind.
Keep your focus and sharpen the mind.
Always behind,
always down.
Always, always stuck on the ground.
Life ahead
seems to blur.
Stop spending focus on what might occur.
Try to fight,
try to fly.
Try, try mightily to touch the sky.
Sightless wonder,
deaf and dumb.
Searching desperately for the sun.
Always behind,
always down.
Always, always stuck on the ground.
Reason comes,
reason goes.
Treading the path that instinct knows.
Try to fight,
try to fly.
Try, try mightily to touch the sky.
Come the dark,
cloud the path.
Gone the crumbs that lead us back.
Always behind,
always down.
Always, always stuck on the ground.
Darkness flees
from the light
as we seek wisdom bright.
Try to fight,
try to fly.
Try, try mightily to touch the sky.
Now that I am finished,
I cannot lie.
The two words I’ll remember? …Always…Try.
Author Note: This is a first draft of a poem that I wrote mainly for myself. But hey, I kind of like it. What do you think?
